Ecocide - Boson City Councilor Ema Strickland Calls for Making Eating Meat a Felony - Eating Fish a Misdemeanor (Boson Globe) 24 Sept 2019

Killing the environment ought to be a crime on par with genocide, liberal Democratic Boson City Councilor Ema Strickland has said at a Democratic Party conference, calling for meat and dairy be banned by law, just like smoking indoors.
“I think when we look at the damage eating meat is doing to the planet it is not preposterous to think that one day it will become illegal,” councilor Ema Strickland said on Monday, 23 September 2019.

“It is time for a new law on ecocide to go alongside genocide and the other crimes against humanity,” said Stickland, a vegan herself, at the launch of Vegan Now workshop organized at the Democratic Party conference.

The city councilor, and head of the local Democratic Party,  argued that livestock farming is contributing to the destruction of the environment climate change, citing a recent UN report to back his claims.

“We know that the top 3,000 companies in the world are responsible for more than $1.5 trillion worth of damage to the environment, with meat and dairy production high on the list. We know that because the UN has told us so,” she said.

While the meeting was poorly attended, opponents pointed out that Councilor Ema Stickland has a way of tacking her pet projects on to the end of other bills being proposed in city council chambers as a way to sneak them past other lawmakers opposed to her ideas.

Councilor Strickland was referring to the recent report by the World Resources Institute, in partnership with the UN Environment Program, which urged drastic cuts in meat production and consumption to combat climate change.

Livestock farming is responsible for at least 14.5 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, just ahead of transportation’s 14 percent, according to the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. One group of researchers has suggested widespread genetic modification to cows, to make them emit less methane from bodily functions such as 'breaking wind' and defacating, according to a recently published a study in Science Advances.

Climate activists across the US and wealthy Western industrialized nations  have called for a radical crackdown on emissions, including limiting or banning meat, in recent years. A faction of Democrats in the US, led by Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York) has proposed a ‘Green New Deal,’ though it has been met with ridicule and disdain.

Public reactions to Councilor Strickland’s ideas have mostly been along the same lines.
“Insane. Absolutely insane. The apocalyptic doomsday cult of climate hysteria,” said Boson's Republican Mayor Marty Welsh.  When Councilor Strickland proposed a stiff tax on meat Mayor Welsh vetoed the idea. "Upper class liberals impose an unpopular and ineffective environmentalist policy that will hit the poorest citizens hardest, is bound to create a host of unintended consequences, and is founded on speculative science to begin with," Welsh said.

At the end of the Democratic Party meeting, after the backyard barbecue featuring 500 hundred sirloin steaks donated by the Meat Packers labor union and 500 fish fillet donated by the Fishermen's  association,

Councilor Ema Strickland held a "Meat Cook Book Burning" that tossed 500 'obsolete' cookbooks onto the dying flames of the Democratic Party cook-out.  The labor union members had already gone to a nearby bar for a few beers and friendly drinks.  Councilor Ema Strickland does not drink alcohol, which somehow also causes global warming and liberal melt-down.
Councilor Strickland and supporters then held a 'die in' to show the remaining people what dead people, or people lying on the floor, looked like.

The fresh fruit table brought to the Democratic meeting by the Dirt First! collective was largely untouched. Labor union attendees would not eat the 'fresh fruit' because it came from a non-union food outlet owned by an upper class dilettante 'farmer' in Boson's wealthy Pleasant Valley neighborhood.

The super eco-radicals of Dirt First! denounced City Councilor Stickland for not recycling the unwanted books and contributing to 'global warming' with the book bond fire.
