“For the last couple decades that figure was holding steady. The forces of evil in the modern world, and the post-modern world, and in consumer capitalism, and late capitalism are pushing our students toward a nihilistic atheism in a small but significant number of cases."
She went on, "But because of our long distance learning and holding classes on Zoom and Google Meetup and Skype, we have a clean slate. What errors were made by overbearing or hypocritical staff in the past are behind us now. As Jesus said in the New Testament, "Let the dead bury the dead."Jenkins summed up saying that she believed that the drop in numbers were mainly due in part to the Covid-19 lockdowns.
“Without the students here under our supervision, it’s been difficult for some staff to drive them away from Catholicism. Even with limited hours online with them, it’s nearly impossible to know what kind of stuff they’re reading. They could be reading the Jewish Talmud for all we know. Or all they read is Young Adult fiction.”

Jenkins also stated that it was imperative now more than ever for parents to get involved in their children’s spiritual education, but to keep things vague. "More mystery, and less history," she said. "We don't want the teachings of the church in the past to be overemphasized in the present. Don't let Grandpa bring in any ideas from before the Vatican Council Reforms of the 1960's. We don't want any of that Mel Gibson 'Old Time Religion' brand of Catholicism. The Church has enough problems without those loony tune conspiracy theorists."
One student reported that he found the reading material and videos about Catholic beliefs easier to follow than classroom teachers who seemed to have a lot of distractions and personal agendas.
