Vandals Spray Paint City Councilor's House - 'I support the uprising' Said Ema Strickland 'But not at my own home!' (Boson Globe) 18 June 2020

City Council President Ema Strickland, who is openly gay, has contacted police about spray painted slogans on her home in Boson's Harrad Square neighborhood.  Her Ring doorbell cam and other security CCTV cameras captured a black clad figure painting 'BLM' on her house on Thursday, 18 June 2020.

"I have attended protests and helped bail out people falsely accused of blocking streets and throwing frozen water bottles at the police," said the visibly angry Councilor Strickland.  "I support Black Lives Matter and took a knee wearing an African kunte scarf as solidarity.  I support Reparations for Slavery that occurred in the US southern state 150 years ago.  Each Black person, even immigrants, would receive either $350,000 up front, or a guarrantteed $10,000 a year tax free for the rest of their lives.   So, why target me?  I'm openly gay; I am a member of an oppressed marginalized group that has a right to be heard.  But, no one has a right to spray paint slogans on my house."

"What's the point of painting Floyd George's name on the walls of my home?" she added.  "I've been in the streets saying his name with everyone else.  We all know that he gave his life so people should say his name."

Concilor Strickland has been a fierce opponent of civilians having guns, but has reportedly applied for a firearms license and has purchased an AR-15 because of its ability to hold off crowds of attackers.

Critics have pointed out that City Councilor Strickland has introduced legislation that would defund the police and give money to community groups.

"Gay people need more protection," not less.  "We want less police in the Black community where they are often seen as an occupying army."

Mayor Welsh seemed to taunt his Democratic opponent in November's election by increasing the funding for the city's K-9 Police Dogs Unit with the nickname Paw Patrol.  The mayor seemingly was given a medal by a member of the special unit.

As of press time there is little information on the mostly peaceful graffiti vandal who was dressed all in black like a goth.  The alleged spray painter is described as about 5'9 and has a slim build and skinny jeans and skinny legs.

Boson Police Department noted that they will have less person power to investigate the incident at Councilor Strickland's home due to being defunded by Councilor Strickland.  "Maybe we'll send the Paw Patrol to sniff around."
