Boson Pub Grub - A Long Tradition in Transplanted Culinary Culture - by Hana Duntley

Image
The Boson Oak Public House - The Oldest Pub in Town Try a Ploughman’s, pie or pasta—informal and fresh! F rom Boson bangers and mash with onion gravy at the Blue Bell Inn to a cheddar Ploughman’s lunch with a pint of cider in the heart of Poorchester, pub food is a serious component of Boson fare. Most Boson pubs serve up hearty pub grub at lunchtime and many in the evenings. The legend is that the founder of Boson colony in 1630, Higginson Boson, built the first public house so that 'ideas could be spread freely.'  The freethinking settler thought a pub was more important than the religious meeting houses of the Plymouth Colony to the south.  So, pubs have a long and honor place in the libertarian tradition of the town of Boson.   The range of pub foods has expanded considerably in the last generation, with fine-dining gastropubs adding a new dimension with

"Democrats Will Cancel Christmas!" Mayor Welsh Rallies Supporters - "Strickland Will Bring A COVID Lockdown Dystopia"

Image
Boson MASS: With a few days left to November 3 voting, and many people having voted already, Boson saw a large rally of Republican Trump and Mayor Welsh supporters on Boson Commons.  Speaking from the bandstand gazebo Boson's current Republican Mayor Martin J. Welsh addressed the crowd of several thousand (the mayor was not wearing a face mask as he spoke.)   City Council President Ema Strickland was reportedly very angry when she saw video of Mayor Welsh joking that he might declare himself 'transgender' to get some of the 'alphabet soup' vote.  A visibly shaking Councilor Strickland said by Zoom call, "Gay, transgender, queer, non-binary, and Lesbian people die every day.  There is nothing to laugh about when talking about LBTQetcetera people,  Nothing."   She added, "I might also point out that the video of the rally features a Christmas song while Mayor Welsh was claiming Democrats will cancel the Holidays. That is not true.  However, the city pas

Newberry Street Art Gallery Displays Sculpture of Donald Trump Having Sex With Miss Universe (Boson After Dark) 30 Oct 2020

Image
(UPI) A lewd sculpture depicting President Donald Trump having sex with a mock Miss Universe has been put on display in an art gallery in Central Boson. The sculpture will be shown at the BloGo Revue until election day on November 3rd and was dubbed by the artist the “Official Presidential Send Off”. In an exclusive interview, visiting British artist Alison Jackson told Boson After Dark that her raunchy depiction of the American leader gives people the opportunity to people to see “everything they’ve imagined but never seen before, come to life before their very eyes.” Alison Jackson had previously created art illustrating President Trump's visit with the English Royal Family.  “The thing about this sculpture, it’s like throwing up a mirror to people of what Donald Trump does and represents. He represents grabbing women by the pussy, and his bad behaviour with women. So when people see this sculpture they say that’s exactly what he’s going to be doing in the Oval Off

A Boson man stole a bulldozer, knocked down a fence and stole Biden signs, police said Paclyn Jeiser ,  The Boson Post Oct. 26, 2020 Updated: Oct. 26, 2020 6:53 a.m.     Residents in a predominantly Liberal Democratic neighborhood near Harrad Square, knew something was off on Saturday when they saw a young MAGA hat wearing man driving a bulldozer on the street. As he made his way down the block, the man began running over every lawn sign in sight supporting Joe Biden. "This man came onto my property, took the two Joe Biden signs I had in my yard and then came back with a bulldozer to run down my fence," Adam Burgess, a local homeowner, told Quincy Bay News 9.   The man, later identified by police as 26-year-old James Blite, was charged with grand theft auto and trespassing, according to the outlet. The incident in eastern Massachusetts is the latest example

Boson Colonial Church Fights With Coin Finding Metal Detector Who Found $10,000 Antique Penny (Reuters) 26 Oct 2020

Image
(Reuters)  A Boson man is in a dispute with the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Boson over the ownership of a rare 1798 penny found in the colonial era church burial grounds.  The finder was armed with a metal detector and had permission to be in the graveyard as long as he didn't disturb any of the crumbling headstones or crosses.   No agreement had been reached as to who was the owner of any relics found in the cemetery.   "Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesars," said Jay Shane holding a picture of the found penny out.  "Do you see a picture of the church on this penny?"   The man with the metal detector says he found the long-hidden, 222-year-old coin under a few inches of soil just inside the wrought iron fence gate of the graveyard. Jay Shane, of Boson's Pleasant Valley neighborhood, usually does his metal hunting at North Wollaston Beach.   "I decided to try my luck around this graveyard," he explained.  "This is the old

Seven Pumpkins and Bon Jovi - Biden Boson Rally Crashed By Hundreds of Trump Supporters (Fox 25 News) 25 Oct 2020

Image
(Fox 25 News) More than a dozen Biden supporters were enjoying the sounds of John Bon Jovi at a Biden rally in Boson, Massachusetts, when a couple of hundred Trump supporters began to gather at the rear of the Biden event.  The Biden crowd was heavily masked, some with face shields, and socially distanced.   Many in the Trump crowd did not have masks and all seemed bunched together.  Biden organizers swiftly called the Boson Police, the Massachusetts State Police, the Boson Department of Public Health, and the Massachusetts State Public Health Department to report the miscreants.     Bon Jovi continued playing as the Trump supporters listened and seemed to enjoy his music, if not his pro-Democrat commentary.   Fox 25 New England Nation host Lawrence Smith caught up with a group of Boson residents Wednesday who gathered outside a Joe Biden campaign event to show their "love" for President Trump . "We love the president. We love what he does for the country," one r

Tips for Hosting a Misguided and Angst-Filled Socially Distanced Outdoor Gathering

Image
Misguided and Angst-Filled Socially Distanced Outdoor Gatherings - Not as easy as it looks  For many, the product of a complex collision of primitive instinct, emotion and intellectual rationalization during these trying times has compelled them to want to continue to socialize with friends and family, but at a safe distance. If the above describes yourself accurately, the following are tips that might help you have the type of gathering that will at once satisfy and frustrate these fractured and contradictory needs combining to determine your life choices. • Parties with a theme are always more fun. The end of the world, for example, which is surely near. Invite your guests to share with the rest of the party the thing they'll miss most about our doomed civilization while you serve them glasses of homemade hemlock wine to ease their transition into the afterlife. • Come up with some fun punishments for guests who remove their facemasks

Boson Extinction Rebellion Blocks Roads to Oil Shippers On Neponset River Docks

Image
Protesters belonging to the climate change activism group Extinction Rebellion have attempted to blockade access to an oil refinery in Boson, Massachusetts, claiming that the plant’s operator is the state’s biggest polluter. Demonstrators used two boats to block two roads leading to the plant and the company’s headquarters. A small group of protesters also chained themselves together at the gates of the refinery, telling local media that they plan to block the entrance to the plant until at least the end of the day.  Photographs posted to social media by the group show demonstrators marching down a road holding large banners reading “Climate justice = Social justice” and “Stop oil company ecocide.” A group of boaters rallied in the nearby waters of Boson Harbour off Half Moon Island.  They spelled out a message that could only be read by someone at least a thousand feet up.   The boats used to block the roads were also used to relay Extinction Rebellion’s (XR)

Boson's Last Jazz Club Struggles - COVID May Kill The 'Vanguard' Club on Seventh Avenue

Image
(Reuters) Without immediate government subsidies the famed 'Vanguard' Jazz club will shutter its doors at the end of the month.   Jazz clubs comprise one of the most fragile sectors of the arts and music world. The New York Times recently observed that after suffering nearly six months of lost business, jazz venues in New York “have begun sounding the alarm that without significant government relief, they might not last much longer. Even with support, some proprietors said, the virus may have rendered their business model extinct.” Jazz was gaining in main stream acceptance during the 1918 pandemic.  Some critics of 'the Devil's music' theorized that the close dancing and late night clubs where a part of the jazz music scene spreading the virus.  The 1918 flu seemed to particularly target healthy young people turning their robust immune systems against them while old people did not suffer as in most flu outbreaks.   But, today the old people who might have be

Boson's Kabuki Theatre Asks Politicians of Both Parties To Stop Using Their Name As An Insult

Image
(AP) A visibly angry Jason Johns, Director of the Boson Kabubi Dinner Theatre in Uptown Boson held a hastily convened presser on the steps of the establishment that offers the public the traditional Japanese drama performances as well as a full dinner at an affordable price.  Because there is no talking during the Kabuki play the customers can converse and make noise at their table without interrupting the performance.   However this virtue has also cause the phrase "Kabuki theater" to enter the political lexicon meaning a slow moving performance designed to take up time.  Perhaps the leader of a legislative body does not want a law to pass.  Instead of coming out against the measure directly and saying what they think, the leaders allow the bill to move through the legislative process slowly and ineffectively.  The liken this to the slow moving Kabuki plays they have seen a little of or heard of.  So.... an insult is born for those who love Kabuki theater.   "We were j

Boson's 'Taste of Sicily' Restaurant Wins Court Case Against $10k COVID Fine - 21 Oct 2020

Image
(AP) A family restaurant in Boson, Massachussetts, has won a major victory against COVID-19 restrictions in their state, with a court finding the $10,000 fine they were hit with "unenforceable." Taste of Sicily in Boson County reopened their doors in May after an extended closure saw them experience financial difficulty. They were immediately struck with a $10,000 fine by the state for not adhering to social distancing, mask, and other compliance orders mandated by the COVID-19 pandemic orders.  The Italian restaurant, which is co-owned by brother and sister team Michael Mangano and Christine Wartluft, was found not guilty after fighting a lengthy battle in court against the fines. Their lawyer, Eric Winter, told the Daily Caller that Governor Charles Duane Baker Jr. and the Department of Health’s Orders couldn’t be punished under Massachusetts criminal law. In his decision, Judge Stickman wrote that he believed the Baker government “undertook their actions i

East Blue Hills Farmer Uses Steel Shipping Containers For Trump Sign After Bales of Hay Set on Fire Repeatedly

Image
Boson County Massachusetts – Arsonists have forced a farmer to get creative with his display supporting President Donald Trump. Farmer Jon Dolieslager originally created the display using stacks of hay at the corner of Avenue 384 and Road 80 in Dinuba at the edge of the East Blue Hills Reservation.  On Sept. 29, the Boson County Sheriff's Office says the hay was set on fire by arsonists. The display was burnt to the ground, costing Dolieslager around $5,000 since the hay wasn't insured. A few days later, Dolieslager rebuilt the display, using more hay and signs this time. The display was set on fire for a second time on Saturday, Oct. 11.   The sheriff's office says it found evidence that indicates this fire was started on purpose. Dolieslager says the fire isn't discouraging him from showing his support for Trump. "We're just gonna keep on going," he said. "We want to get our candidates to finish line." He rebuilt the display for a

Man Arrested After He's Denied Burger King Breakfast - by Jesse Leavenworth (Boson Courant) 20 Oct 2020

Boson MASS — Denied a fast food breakfast because he was too late, a local man became angry and cited a movie in which a similar rejection results in a customer threatening people with a gun, police said Tuesday. Tracked down at his home after the confrontation at a Burger King restaurant on Sunday, Kary Guhn was arrested and charged with first-degree threatening and second-degree breach of peace, police spokesman Capt. Christopher Davis said. At about 10:55 a.m., Guhn, 55, ordered breakfast at the Burger King on Center Street, but was told that breakfast service had ended at 10:30 a.m., Davis said. "Have you ever seen the movie, 'Falling Down' with Michael Douglas?" Guhn asked the cashier, according to Davis. "It's a movie you should watch." Clip from Falling Down - Dailymotion - https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x9ac7p Guhn told the cashier the main character in the movie shot up a burger joint after being denied breakfast and added, "That's w
