US COVID-19 Deaths Uncalculated Loss - Calculated (Boson Times) 24 May 2020

Image
“They were not simply names on a list, they were us,” the front page if the Boson Times reads, describing the deaths as an “incalculable loss.” After this solemn declaration, the paper then put the names on a list, and calculated the loss. And, because mainstream media loves nothing more than congradulating itself, the Times ran a ‘behind-the-scenes’ story explaining how and why its editors put the list together (spoiler alert: they had a group of unpaid graduate interns trawl obituary pages in local newspapers).

Boson City Hall Rally Demands 'Liberty' and End to Lockdown - 23 May 2020

Image
(AP) Over 300 people demonstrated on Boson Commons next to City Hall calling for an end to the lockdown across Massachusetts. Demonstrators came to the Boson City Hall on Saturday to march around the commons, feasting on barbecue and demanding that Gov. Charles Duane Baker Jr.  lift his restrictions on business, religious gatherings and other trappings of everyday life. The protest, dubbed Liberty Fest, was a cross between a tailgate party, music festival and political statement. Organizers said it would be Eastern Massachusetts largest Memorial Day weekend protest against coronavirus stay-at-home orders. A crowd gathered along Trimount Street, facing the west steps of city hall, with hundreds arriving hours before the official noon start. Two busloads came from the Pleasant Valley neighborhood arrived to cheers from the throng. . Mayor Welsh Objects to Boson Public Library 'Drag Queen Story Hour' Moving to Zoom

Image
(AP) Boson Mayor Martin J. Welsh has voiced objections to the city public library featuring the 'Drag Queen Story Hour' on Boson Public Library web site and on Zoom conference calls. "What is the point of this?"  Mayor Welsh said in a Google Meetup press conference.  "What is the agenda?  Remember when marginalized sexual minorities were simply asking to be left alone?" The mayor has ignored calls to shut down the story hours in the past saying that he wanted to honor 'separation of powers' and let the librarians decide what kinds of events would be held at the Central Branch Library and the neighborhood libraries. "But now, they are taking it to another level," the mayor said.  "I have heard reports that some elementary school teachers are requiring students to watch the video presentations.  Is this going to be part of the school curriculum with no debate in the school committee?" City Councilor P...

Boson Restaurant Becomes Huge Corporation to Qualify for Small Business Grant From Federal Government

Image
Boson MASS – Carolina Sanchez, co-owner of mom-and-pop Mexican restaurant, Cielo Rojo, was devastated when informed that the Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) ran out of funds, leaving her without cash to make payroll. The program, designed to help struggling small businesses and giant mega-corporate chains who are so big they don't pay Federal taxes, ended up blowing through its $350 billion allotment within days of the program’s opening as computer algorithms designed to get any and all Federal funds were utilized by the big capitalists.   That’s when Sanchez decided to think outside of the box. “I grew exhausted from filling out countless small business forms and waiting on hold with banks for several hours to get nothing,” Sanchez  said. “So we re-branded as a huge corporation and the money just came pouring in the very next day. The process was so easy!” Under its new name, Ruth’s Cielo Rojo Shack, ...

Boson Victoria's Secret Stays Relevant Selling Women's Underpants as Face Masks - Legally an Essential Business

Image
Boson, Massachusetts (CNN Business) Victoria's Secret is permanently closing a quarter of its stores in the United States and Canada over the next few months. But the Boson outlet has used creative marketing to sell merchandise and be classified as an 'essential' business by selling flimsy women's undergarments as face masks to stop the spread of COVID-19.   The intricately laced panties and thongs are perfect for filtering out the unwanted virus.  The Boson outlet quickly sold out of the items as men flocked to the store.  Many were going inside the store for the first time and were shocked at the high priced outfits and lingerie that barely weighed an ounce.   Victoria's Boson may have saved itself, but the chain as a whole is in trouble.   The beleaguered retailer is closing outlets in other locations just weeks after its half-billion dollar plan to go private was scrapped.  L Brands ( LB ) , which owns the comp...

Boson, MASS: The storied Neponset Drive-In Theatre re-opened last weekend with health department restrictions in place.  Last Friday, 15 May 2020, the venue opened with the Boson Public Health Department's approval. Hours earlier than, SUVs, sedans and pickup vehicles had moved through the ticket booths before driving onto the viewing area to park with proper distance to prevent COVID-19 infections.  “It was this or tennis,” mentioned Ivonisa Tesoro, who works in human resources at South Shore Medical Center in Boson and was celebrating her 39th birthday. A pile of empty pizza boxes littered the hatch back storage area as she chatted with room mates in the front seats.  An inviting smell of pepperoni filled the air coming from the half opened window.  As the sun set people with face masks lined up at the concession stand with six feet distance from each other as marked out in chalk on the tarmac.  The owners teenage son stood nearby with face masks to ...
