As Food Shortages Loom Boson's Overweight Population Panics - "Being fat is who I am"
As fears of the plague spread people are going to food stores to stock up on supplies in case there is disruption to the delivery of food and other consumable items.
Government health workers are working to contain the plague, but many fear things could get worse. Almost every night this week the evening news has featured video files of people in supermarkets and food retailers buying large stocks of food and emptying shelves.
While mass panic has not arrived, yet, one group sees themselves as particularly vulnerable to food shortages - the overweight community.
Being overweight is not an easy task. People must consume large amounts of calories to stay fat. Miss a few days of overeating, and the body begins to slim down.
"Being a 'Fat Person' is my character," asserted Fat Liberation leader Linda Dunes. "Yes, it is the first thing people think of when I walk in a room, and it is the first thing I think of when I look in the mirror when I get up in the morning."
"Being morbidly obese is not as easy as it looks. Fat people can be hungry, in fact, they can be much more hungry than a skinny or average weight person."
"That's 'Food Fascism' to try and take the freedom of choice away from a 'body positive' overweight person," she retorted angrily. "I can't believe you would ask such an insulting question. As for the cost of the over packaged foods - most overweight people get 'Food Stamps' or SNAP and don't have to think about how much the junk food they buy costs."

This reporter pointed out that a food crisis like the one this week would seem to be an ideal time to restrict caloric intake and lose some weight to be healthier.
"People should not have their lifestyle dictated to them by physical reality. We don't live in a dictatorship."
This reporter pointed out that most of the food items in the woman's basket were processed packaged convenience foods with relatively high costs and low nutritional value.

As the reality of food shortages sets in Mayor Welsh as urge people to check in with their overweight neighbors and bring them any extra food you might have.
"No one wants to see the neighborhood Fat Lady, or the Fat Guy at the barber shop wasting away to nothing because they can't get the proper starchy foods they need," said the mayor. "I'm a few pounds overweight myself, I hope I don't start losing because of this crisis. But, I'd do anything to keep a porky neighbor fat and happy. Together we can all pull through this!"
