Boson MASS: A
raucous beach event known as "Go Topless Jeep Weekend" ended with
two people hospitalized following a shoving match and nearly 50 others
arrested on various charges.
Boson County Sheriff Henry Sheridan said two men were airlifted to the
hospital after both of them got sand in their eyes during the annual
event on North Wollaston Beach, which brings together hundreds of Jeep
lovers and 4-wheeler enthusiasts.
A
group of men and women were arguing when the fight escalated and buckets of sand were thrown Sheriff Sheridan told NBC News.
"I can't see, I can't see," one man screamed as police rushed in to arrest people illegally enjoying themselves at the beach.
The conditions of the two
men who got sand in their eyes and were hospitalized haven't been released.
Authorities
are looking for a third man who fled holding a red plastic child's sand bucket, the sheriff said Tuesday. No
arrests were made in the assault and batteries, and the investigation is ongoing.
By
the time the gathering ended, more than 50 attendees had been taken
into custody on numerous unrelated charges. The sheriff said charges
included assault, driving without wearing a seat belt, DWI and public
intoxication and glaring at a Peace Officer. Most of those who were arrested have since bonded out.

Justin Weaver, who lives on Quincy Shore Drive across from the beach, told NBC affiliate WBMT of Boson that he was disappointed in how people acted.
"I
don't know why it's so hard for people just to show up and have fun
these days," he said. "It disappoints me to see that kind of violence
come here, because it's usually real quiet here."
Weaver said he hopes that next time people will "respect the beach and respect the people that live here."
Most of the convicts serving time in Boson County Jail have been released after they promised to go straight home and not commit any crimes while under conditional release. Each convict was given a face mask and released.
The jail space has been cleared to make room for the arrested barbers and nail salon owners who have been arrested for opening their places of business in defiance of Massachusetts Governor Charles Baker's decrees closing certain businesses during the COVID-19 public health dictatorship.
Boson City Councilor Ema Strickland denounced the beach goers for leaving their houses during the COVID-19 lockdown. Councilor Strickland sent out a Zoom message comparing the COVID-19 scofflaws to the fascist dictator of 1930's Germany. "Hitler went to the beach," Councilor Strickland pointed out, "Don't be like Hitler!"
"Support your local police state?" one Jeep driver yelled at police as he was leaving the beach parking lot. He was promptly arrested for yelling without a mask.
At a press conference Tuesday evening a visibly angry Sheriff Sheridan asked rhetorically, "What's wrong with these people? Why won't they simply follow the clear orders we give them and stay home under house arrest?"
