'Irish Spring' Soap - Lucky Charms Cereal - Boson's Irish Community Demands End to Stereotypical Cultural Appropriation

(AP) The Boson Ancient Order of Hibernians held a news conference at the Hibernian Hall to denounce the 'explotiation' of Irish culture and Irish people and Irish-Americans.

A visibly angry Timothy O'Toole spoke briefly to reporters and supporters before heading for Boson Harbour to dump Earl Grey Tea into the ocean in a New Boson Tea Party after refreshments in the hall bar.

"Cultural appropriation is always wrong, whether it is of one racial group, or another," he said reading from a prepared statement.  We demand removal of offending images and words that are designed to belittle Irish people, or conversely appeal to Irish people on a consumerist level.  Irish religious traditions are mocked and exploited in such Disney Corporation movies as "Darby O'Gill and the Little People.  This work is still available online, and for purchase as a Blue Ray DVD.  Enough!"

"Some Hollywood screen writers and producers seem to get a big laugh out of the pre-Christian religious beliefs of Ireland," O'Toole lamented.  "Would they make a comedy movie with Mohamed and the Jins of Arabia?  Not if they value their lives.  But, they feel free to mock Irish traditional beliefs and make a pot of gold in the bargain."

"Children of all ages are encouraged to have a laugh at Irish people with their morning breakfast when they see a box of 'Lucky Charms' on the kitchen table promising them something that is 'magically delicious.'

"The company thinks it is a matter of laughter that Irish people do, indeed, eat oats."

"Irish people can never seem to get away from the British Imperialist claims that Irish people are drunks who needed to become a colony of the English in order to sober us up.  How did that work out during the Sunset of the British Empire.  Now the UK is the junior partner of  US Imperialism.  Let's all drink to that!"

The word whisky comes from Old Irish  uisce beatha meaning 'water of life.'

"Just to give one more example of a company that we have sent demands for removal of the product's Irish connection, or appropriate donations to the Ancient Order of Hibernians," O'Toole said, "Look at the 'anti-bacterial' soap Irish Spring."
"The clear subliminal message is that Irish people can be killed by anything that is anti-bacterial.  But, apparently we drink to much whiskey to be killed by the anti-bacterialists."  He added, "Note the clover with four leaves.  Irish honor the three leaved clover.  Tradition says that Saint Padraig taught the incomprehensible idea of One God with Three Personalities by using the Shamrock - not the four leaf clover.  Do the makers of Irish Spring allege that Irish believe in a God with Four Personalities.  What a ridiculous idea.  What is are the four personalities?  The God The Father, God The Son, God The Holy Spirit, and....what?  God the Ghostbuster? You can't make this stuff up."

Tim O'Toole ended the presser by inviting all the media to an 'open bar' at the Ancient Order of Hibernians Hall bar.  "Honestly, the bar is why we keep this place open," he admitted candidly when he thought the microphones and cameras were turned off.
